Colombia 'extremely concerned' over Rodriguez fitness for England tie

World Cup 2018: James Rodriguez injury of 'extreme concern' to Colombia coach
James Rodriguez provided two assists during Colombia's 3-0 win over Poland - but injury brought a premature end to his night against Senegal

Colombia coach Jose Pekerman says he is "extremely concerned" about an injury to James Rodriguez, who came off in the 1-0 World Cup win over Senegal.

The South Americans play England in the last 16 on Tuesday and 2014 Golden Boot winner Rodriguez is already a doubt.

Rodriguez did not start Colombia's opening Group H game against Japan. because of a calf niggle.

"It is not comfortable for us," Pekerman said. "Right now, I do not know where he stands."

The Real Madrid forward, 26, was integral to Colombia in their 3-0 win over Poland, but played only 30 minutes against Senegal before he was substituted.

Pekerman added: "He trained normally until today and he stayed on after practising his free-kicks and penalties.

"He was fully fit in training and in the last session, no hint of injury."

It's part of my rehab': Banned in Australia, Smith makes comeback in Canadian T20

Steve Smith: Ex-Australia captain hits 61 in Canadian T20 in first game since ball-tampering ban
Smith has scored 23 Test match centuries and tops the world Test batting rankings

Former Australia captain Steve Smith hit 61 off 41 balls in his first competitive appearance since he was banned for ball-tampering in March.

Smith, excluded from national and state cricket for his "leadership" role in the incident in South Africa, is playing for the Toronto Nationals in the inaugural Global T20 Canada league.

"I didn't feel as good as I would've liked but it's nice to score runs when you're not feeling good," said Smith.

He said playing was "part of my rehab".

Smith was eventually out stumped as Toronto beat Vancouver Knights by six wickets.

The 29-year old, who still tops the International Cricket Council Test batting rankings, has not played since he admitted to being part of the "leadership group" that conspired to "get an advantage" by illegally tampering with the ball during a Test match in South Africa.

Smith, whose 12-month ban does not extend to competitions outside Australia, said the scandal was not on his mind during his first game back.

"Honestly when I am out in the middle everything else is a blur. Just concentrate on what I am doing and it's almost like my haven I guess," he said.

"I'm not going to lie, it's been a difficult time in my life, there's no doubt about that.

"But I've accepted my punishment, I've accepted what I've gone through and I'm moving forward, and part of my rehab is playing cricket as well and that's what I love doing," he added.

David Willey: Yorkshire all-rounder risked future for IPL sting

David Willey: Yorkshire all-rounder risked future for IPL stint

England all-rounder David Willey says Yorkshire threatened to "rip up" his contract after he missed the start of the season to play in the Indian Premier League.

Willey, 28, joined Chennai Super Kings as a late injury replacement in April and played three games for the side.

He has signed a new Yorkshire deal until the end of the 2019 season.

"I was threatened with them ripping my contract up - which wasn't great - but that's been resolved now," Willey said.

"It was a no-brainer. You don't get the chance to go and play in the biggest Twenty20 competition in the world every day."

Willey scored the winning runs as England beat Australia at The Oval in the first of five one-day internationals.

He has scored two centuries and taken 11 wickets in three One-Day Cup matches for Yorkshire as the Tykes reached the knockout stages of the competition.

The former Northants player has not appeared in the County Championship since April 2017.

"I think the landscape of the modern game is changing, and I do think counties should try and work with it rather than work against it - and look at the longer-term picture," Willey added.

"I think if counties had that outward look at these competitions as a longer-term benefit it would be better for everyone involved. There would be less arguments and fall-outs along the way.

"I may not be around as much as Yorkshire would like at the minute, but I see myself as having a long-term benefit to the county I'm at."

Afghanistan 109 & 103: Shahidi 36, Jadeja 4-17

India win by an innings and 262 runs

Afghanistan lost 20 wickets in a day as their Test debut ended in a two-day defeat by India in Bangalore.

Responding to India's total of 474, Afghanistan were dismissed for 109 and 103 to lose by an innings and 262 runs.

Hashmatullah Shahidi (36) was the top scorer for Afghanistan in either innings as all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja finished with match figures of 6-35.

It is only the fourth time in Test history that a team has been bowled out twice in a day.

It is also the 21st time a Test has ended inside two days, and the first time in India.

There were some positives for debutants Afghanistan - who were awarded Test status in June 2017 - notably the bowling of Yamin Ahmadzai, who took 3-51 in India's sole innings.

India pushed on from an overnight score of 347-6 to reach 474, a total Afghanistan never looked like threatening.

They batted for a combined total of 66.3 overs, with only four batsmen reaching double figures in the second innings.

"The learning curve is huge - it's a mountain to climb. But they want to succeed and they work very hard," Afghanistan coach Phil Simmons said.

"Now we know that we have to work five times as hard".

Lack of discipline & patience costs Afghanistan - analysis

BBC Sport's Sam Sheringham in Bangalore

Afghanistan found out exactly how tough Test cricket is here in Bangalore.

Being beaten by India is no disgrace, but to lose inside two days will be a huge disappointment to the Afghan players and their fans after coming into this historic occasion with such high hopes.

In reality, their batting lacked anything like the discipline and patience required but, given that their preparations involved a three-match Twenty20 series against Bangladesh, perhaps that is hardly surprising.

An established force in the limited-overs forms, Afghanistan have plenty to learn at Test level, but their remarkable story remains one of the most heart-warming in sport.

2 Huge WWE Returns That Could Reinvigorate The Company

2 Huge WWE Returns That Could Reinvigorate The Company

CM Punk

Following his civil trial lawsuit victory over WWE doctor Chris Amann, CM Punk himself seemed to have put the kibosh on a possible pro wrestling return, but the former WWE Champion has slowly but surely reopened the door to the pro wrestling world, where truly anything is possible.

Punk, of course, unceremoniously left WWE in early 2014 and has since made the transition to UFC, appearing to put pro wrestling in the rearview mirror in the process. But if names like Bruno Sammartino, The Ultimate Warrior and Goldberg, who all had troubled relationships with WWE at one point, can return to the company, it’s certainly possible that Punk could too, especially after suffering his second straight bad loss at UFC 225. And though we may never for sure, it would be a shocker if Vince McMahon didn’t let bygones be bygones and welcome him back with open arms.

Once rivaling Cena in terms of merchandise sales, Punk proved to be a tremendous draw for his first UFC fight, and the evidence indicated that he was a great draw during his record WWE Championship reign as well. Punk is still clearly very popular in the pro wrestling world and was even offered $1 million to return to the ring last year, showing that fan interest in seeing him back in the squared circle is definitely still there.

Other than perhaps only The Rock, Punk is the name most commonly brought up by fans when they talk about which major stars they’d like to see return to the company, and with good reason. Punk is one of the most well-rounded performers in WWE history, and as someone who’s demonstrated that he can be a must-see attraction both in and out of the ring, it would be an absolute no-brainer for WWE to bring him back if all the cards fell the right way.

To use an old cliche, never say never in pro wrestling, even when it comes to something seemingly as unlikely as a return for Punk, who for now appears to be done with pro wrestling but could ultimately change his mind, especially if he continues to struggle in MMA.

The Rock

A recent poll indicated that Hulk Hogan is the only pro wrestler on the planet who is more recognizable than The Rock.

Given that The Rock has been the world’s No. 1 or 2 highest paid actor in each of the past two years (according to FORBES), however, it’s safe to say that there is no bigger movie or wrestling star on the planet right now than “The Great One.” Although The Rock hasn’t wrestled a legitimate WWE match since WrestleMania 29 in 2013, WWE tried to secure the biggest name in Hollywood for a WrestleMania 34 match alongside Ronda Rousey but was unable to do so.

Still, that won’t prevent WWE from attempting to bring back The Rock for at least one more major feud and match, nor should it. The biggest holdup that may stop The Rock from ever wrestling again is an insurance issue, essentially meaning that Hollywood execs won’t want the production of a blockbuster film to be delayed if The Rock were to get injured while competing inside the squared circle. Combine that potential roadblock with The Rock’s busy schedule, and there’s no guarantee that he’ll ever be able to work for Vince McMahon again.

However, The Rock is obviously a proven draw, whose WrestleMania 28 match against John Cena generated the most PPV buys in company history, and with his star power growing exponentially since then, WWE will continue to try to land The Rock for one last major rivalry. With new lucrative TV deals looming, WWE will have both the funds and the motivation to bring back a name like The Rock to start off on the right foot under the terms of their new deals on USA Network or FOX.

There is no bigger star in the pro wrestling world than The Rock, and his return, even a short-lived one, could be a game-changer that both spices up WWE’s programming and brings back lapsed fans.

4 Huge WWE Returns That Could Reinvigorate The Company

4Huge WWE Returns That Could Reinvigorate The Company

WWE is set to ink a pair of massive new TV deals that could rekindle the company’s desire to improve its rosters.

While the company attempted to create more interest in its product with April’s Superstar Shakeup, historically low ratings for both Raw and SmackDown suggest that swapping major stars like Kevin Owens, Samoa Joe and The Miz simply wasn’t enough. Perhaps WWE would have been better off moving slightly bigger names like Seth Rollins or Roman Reigns, but because it didn’t and because the company will soon be looking to load up its rosters to impress officials on both FOX and the USA Network due to its upcoming landmark TV deals, we could see even bigger moves made in the future.

In 2016, when WWE moved SmackDown to a live format on Tuesdays, it shocked the world by sending John Cena to the blue brand in hopes of giving the show a marquee star to build around. Now, on the heels of WWE reportedly set to sign a pair of blockbuster deals for Raw and SmackDown that will be game-changers for the pro wrestling industry, the belief is that WWE will be looking to build its shows around major names to make them more appealing to their networks, advertisers and the mainstream in general.

That means WWE, like it often does in situations like these, will search high and low to bring back must-see attractions to reinvigorate the product. Who might the company pursue this time around? Here are five major names who could soon return to WWE and instantly provide a jolt of excitement and a boost in business for Raw or SmackDown.

Batista

Former WWE star Dave Bautista, known simply as Batista in the wrestling world, has been busy starring in record-breaking movies, but he hasn’t forgotten about his pro wrestling roots and has made it clear he wants one last WWE run.

In fact, Batista recently revealed that WWE stopped returning his calls in regards to a potential return in which he would have liked to work one last feud with Triple H before riding off into the sunset for good. While there has been some speculation that Batista’s claims of WWE ghosting him have been a work to lay the foundation for a potential return feud, that doesn’t appear to be the case. However, despite any apparent issues between the two sides, you can still never rule out the possibility of a Batista return given the way his Hollywood career has really taken off over the past few years.

WWE is all about cross-promotion and mainstream media attention, and Batista, who’s starred in blockbuster hits like Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Infinity War, is quickly rising up the ranks in the acting world, which would presumably be quite appealing to WWE. Although Batista’s last run with the company in 2014 was widely considered to be a colossal failure, that was an over-exaggeration, and things are much different this time around anyway.

For WWE, the company seems more concerned about garnering mainstream media attention (see: Ronda Rousey and anything involving John Cena or Total Bellas), and for Batista, he’s a significantly bigger mainstream star now than he was just four years ago. With Batista consistently expressing his desire to return to WWE and the company really lacking in the mainstream star power department, a Batista return should be a no-brainer for both parties and could be one that washes away the stench of Batista’s recent failed run and gives WWE a short-term star to boost TV ratings and the WWE Network subscriber count.

Batista, after all, has really won over fans with his role as Drax the Destroyer and could bring that popularity back with him to WWE.

Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho has proven that he doesn’t need the WWE machine to be a massive draw.

Jericho’s high-profile match against Kenny Omega at New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 12 back in January was a huge hit for NJPW, and much of the credit for the success of that show can be attributed to Y2J. According to Fightful.com, Jericho’s first non-WWE match in nearly two decades helped boost the show’s attendance by nearly 9,000 from the previous year and resulted in a jump of nearly 20,000 subscribers (from 70,000 to 90,000) for NJPWWorld, which is the company’s equivalent to the WWE Network.

Likewise, according to Ringside News, Jericho had the No. 1 selling t-shirt at Hot Topic, outranking popular independent stars including Omega, Cody Rhodes and Bullet Club as well as all WWE shirts for sale at the store. That truly demonstrates how Jericho continues to reinvent himself and remain relevant even without the backing of WWE, and it also shows why WWE would be foolish not to bring him back because of the potential boost he could give the company as both a proven draw and very unselfish superstar.

The great thing about Jericho is that, even though he is obviously a major attraction, he’s also more than willing to put over other superstars for the sake of WWE’s long-term future. Jericho has a long history of unselfishly elevating up-and-coming superstars, as evidenced by his brief appearance at the Greatest Royal Rumble or recent feuds with names like Kevin Owens and AJ Styles, and he could do just that upon another WWE return.

For now, Jericho is still busy with NJPW (he just won the IWGP Intercontinental Championship), but as someone who has a long history of signing short-term contracts with WWE, the door always seems to be open for him to return and provide an instant boost to both WWE’s business and the quality of its programming.

Dean Ambrose

Dean Ambrose has been out of action since undergoing triceps surgery last December, but he’s nearing an in-ring return.

Kurt Angle and Seth Rollins have both said that Ambrose will return “soon,” and boy oh boy, is his presence is badly needed on both Raw and SmackDown. Although Ambrose’s character sort of hit a wall prior to his injury last fall, his popular never waned as he has likely been a top five or six merchandise seller for each of the past three years (2015, 2016 and 2017) and was generating some of the company’s best crowd reactions before he was unfortunately sidelined.

Now, it’s clear that Ambrose could provide quite the burst of energy and excitement to either Raw or SmackDown, the first of which really could benefit from “The Lunatic Fringe” being unleashed as a maniacal heel while the blue brand could utilize him as either a heel or a babyface. Raw already features a loaded babyface core that includes most of the company’s top merchandise movers and strongest draws, including Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman, so it’s likely that, barring a heel turn, he’d have a bigger impact on SmackDown than he would in a sea of other fan favorites on the red brand.

Ambrose is one of WWE’s most reliable stars both as a wrestler and overall performer, which explains why he is always featured prominently and pushed better than the majority of the other stars on the roster. While Ambrose isn’t as well known in the mainstream as stars like Jericho or Batista, he’s been, along with Reigns and Rollins, pushed as a cornerstone of WWE over the last four years, and as such, is obviously someone WWE views as a star who can increase interest and improve its product.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and with Ambrose set to return from the first extended injury absence of his career, he should come back red hot as a main event star who can provide some much needed depth and energy for either brand.

Standing tall at a mammoth 6ft 8in, the wrestling goliath has claimed the WWE legend simply can’t match his strength.

Speaking at the For Your Consideration Emmy event in Hollywood, Strowman, 34, took the opportunity to claim the WWE strongman title.

He is yet to prove himself in the ring however, having been bettered by Lesnar, 40, on multiple occasions.

Strowman was defeated at No Mercy in September after challenging the WWE Universal Champion.

Lesnar also managed to pin Kane this year at Royal Rumble to retain his title – another chance missed by Strowman.

Strowman was full of gusto when speaking to reporters on Wednesday however.

Initially boasting about how much he has to eat to maintain a 385-pound frame, Strowman went on to discuss his fellow giant.

He said: ”I’m a big eater, if I went to Waffle House, I would order ten eggs – four yolks – two grilled chicken breasts, a double order of hash browns, smothered, covered, and chunked, and a coffee.

Man Utd transfer news: Jose Mourinho is preparing to miss out on Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld

The Belgium international has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks.

Alderweireld, 29, has two years remaining on his current Spurs contract, but Tottenham are resigned to losing the defender this summer.

However, according to ESPN, Tottenham are demanding around £70m for the centre-back, with United currently willing to pay £50m.

The Red Devils wanted to land the Belgium star before the World Cup starts next week, however, Alderweireld has already flown to Russia, meaning the deal will have to wait.

Spurs are refusing to sell Alderweireld - and strengthen United - without forcing the Red Devils to pay up for the defender.

England's elite female players will be paid twice as much in 2021 as they were during last year's World Cup win, if plans come to fruition.

Since February, 10 of the 22 contracted England players have had their wages increased by at least 50%, after the money available was raised by 40%.

"It's a sign of how professional the women's game is going," England captain Heather Knight told BBC Sport.

England's three-match series against South Africa starts on Saturday.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) also confirmed a bonus pot for series wins has also been introduced for the the first time.

"It's a sign of how brilliant last year was as well and how many people were interested in where the game's going," added Knight.

The Professional Cricketers' Association confirmed the new contracts are until the end of 2019, while negotiations for 2020 and beyond ongoing.

The list of 22 includes teenage left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone, who turned 19 in May and is added to the list of contracted players for the first time, while three young players - Katie George, Alice Davidson-Richards and Freya Davies - have been awarded rookie contracts.

In April, Knight, Natalie Sciver and Anya Shrubsole were named among Wisden's five Cricketers of the Year.

"At the moment it's not about equal pay [for women], but we should be bold - I'm always looking to be ahead of other women's team sports at international level - and demonstrate a commitment to closing that gap with a bit of urgency," said ECB director of women's cricket Clare Connor.

"The objective is to get to a situation in 2020 - when the new investment in the game kicks in. It's the direction of travel that's important."

Arjun Tendulkar: Sachin's son named in India under-19 squad

Arjun is the only son of Sachin Tendulkar, who also has a older daughter named Sara

The son of legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar, Arjun, has been picked for the national under-19 team.

The team will play five one-day internationals and two four-day matches in Sri Lanka in July.

Sachin, who remains the most revered sportsman in India, said his son's selection "was an important milestone in his cricketing life".

Experts have praised Arjun Tendulkar's ability to perform well in junior cricket despite intense media scrutiny.

In an interview with BBC Sport in January, Tendulkar Jr said his dream was to play for India.
"Yes, I'm working very hard to. That's my ultimate dream," he said.

Taller and thinner than his legendary father, when asked about the stresses of continuing the name associated globally with an icon, he says: "I don't take that pressure.

"When I bowl I just think hit the deck hard with every ball and when I bat I just play my shots, and choose which bowlers to take on and which not to."
Arjun Tendulkar is a left-arm fast bowler. He said he did not choose bowling consciously.

"I just grew taller and got stronger," he explains.
"And I just loved bowling fast in my childhood. So I thought I might as well be a fast bowler because there's not many in India."

Asked whether his father had been a decisive influence he adds: "He helped me a lot. But he didn't force me into it."

Graeme Smith urges ICC to come up with solution to deal with early retirements after AB de Villiers' shock decision

In the wake of AB de Villiers' shock retirement, Graeme Smith has said that players hanging up their boots early to play in attractive T20 leagues will become common and called upon the ICC to come up with a solution for this predicament.

Mumbai: In the wake of AB de Villiers' shock retirement, former South Africa captain Graeme Smith has predicted that the trend of  players hanging their boots early to play in attractive Twenty20 (T20) leagues will become common, and called upon the International Cricket Council (ICC) to come up with a solution for this predicament.

"Players will retire slightly earlier because of the options that they have in domestic cricket in which they earn good money. They travel less, there is less pressure on them and their families. So I think it is something that the ICC need to consider in terms of administering the game," Smith told Firstpost on the sidelines of CEAT awards.

Smith's statement comes a few days after de Villiers, his former teammate, announced retirement from international cricket because he was "tired". Though de Villiers mentioned that he has no plans of playing overseas, his retirement is a reflection of where international cricket is heading right now.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) are in constant pressure to make sure that their out-of-favour players don't seek Kolpak deals. West Indies' players continue to play in T20 leagues all around the world even after Cricket West Indies' offered temporary amnesty. While CWI has mostly been reactive, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been proactive and already restricted its players to only two T20 leagues per year. Smith insists this is a "big issue."

"I think free agencies is a big issue in our game for the ICC. I think the decisions they make going forward in terms of creating context in cricket, how to set up the calendar year etc. is going to be very, very important," he said.

De Villiers was stuck in a similar quandary for the last two years. It was an open secret that his aim was to win South Africa a World Cup. He also skipped Test cricket from January 2016 to December 2017 to focus all his energies on the 2019 World Cup. But he was criticised heavily for picking and choosing and eventually made a comeback in whites before announcing retirement.

When asked if the criticism may have led to his decision, Smith said, "Maybe. I think even then international cricket was on his brain. I thought he came back (in December 2017) and played really well. So I did think he will go the 2019 World Cup. There's still a lot of cricket before the World Cup. And who knows? Maybe he wanted to spend more time with his family or something else... I am guessing. I will speak to him when I get home. But I think we must appreciate what he's done in international game and I hope that he does play a couple of T20 tournaments around the world," the 37-year old said.

The timing of de Villiers' departure is likely to hurt South African cricket. With the World Cup only 12 months away, the Faf du Plessis-led ODI side had their hopes pinned on de Villiers. His absence will be too hard to fill in such a short time, and Smith reckoned that coach Ottis Gibson and Faf will have to rebuild their team intelligently in the coming months.

"It is going to be a huge challenge especially when you lose a player who has got a massive x-factor and can win games by himself. Who replaces that? No one can. I think they need to be smart. The current talent pool is still okay. But how Faf and Ottis Gibson set up that team now will be interesting to see," Smith remarked.

De Villiers' international debut came under Smith's captaincy in 2004. Together, both of them have been involved in lot of important victories, both home and away. When asked to sum-up his his teammate's career, Smith said, " It's been absolutely brilliant. He has captured the imagination of every cricket fan around in the world. I think he is a very smart cricketer, smart batsman with huge amount of imagination and ability. It was great to have captained him through a large part of his career and seen him grow into a man and a wonderful player that he became."

New Zealand coach Mike Hesson announces shock resignation

New Zealand coach Mike Hesson announces shock resignation

Mike Hesson guided New Zealand to a one-day international series win over South Africa in 2013, which was the first in the country in any format

Mike Hesson has announced his resignation as coach of New Zealand after six years in charge.

"I don't feel I have the capacity to give the job what it deserves," said the tearful 43-year-old, who will officially step down on 31 July.

His deal was due to run out after the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales.

Under Hesson, New Zealand reached the 2015 World Cup final and won 21 of 53 Tests, 65 of 119 one-day internationals and 30 of 59 Twenty20 matches.

"Personally, I regard him as the best coach the Black Caps have ever had," said former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum.

The Black Caps also reached number one in the Twenty20 rankings, second in one-day internationals and third at Test level under Hesson, who was appointed in 2012.

They also beat England 1-0 in a two-Test series which turned out to be his last in charge, as the Kiwis are not scheduled to play again until October.

"Mike exemplified the 'team-first' attitude he himself talked about and left no stone unturned in terms of leading the side to success," said current New Zealand captain Kane Williamson.

"I've witnessed his work ethic first-hand and have seen the sacrifices he's made, and I can only say I have the utmost respect for what he's achieved."

The process to find Hesson's successor "will commence shortly", with New Zealand next in action against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates, starting in October.

Australia to take ‘good thing’ sledging on the field against England

Australia to take ‘good thing’ sledging on the field against England

Australia are scheduled to play five ODIs and a T20I during their tour of England that is scheduled to begin from June 13 at The Oval.

Australia will be without the services of Steve Smith and David Warner when they play England in an away five-match ODI series and new coach Justin Langer has hinted that his side would take “good thing” sledging on the field.
“In Australia sledging’s a good thing: if I play Uno (a card game) with my daughter we sledge each other,” Langer told a news conference at Lord’s on Wednesday.
“If I play golf with my parents, we sledge each other. There’s a difference between banter and abuse. There’s no room for abuse anywhere,” the former Australia opener, who played at Lord’s for Middlesex, added.

Langer further added that the side has been given the tag of “sledging Australians” and said, “Even if we were so nice people would think we’re a bunch of hard-edged Australians. We’ll still be called ‘sledging Australians’, it’s been happening for the last 30 years. So we’ll cope with that.”
Captain Tim Paine added that the Australians have been vocal on the field but understand the difference between abuse and banter. The new skipper further said that his side won’t be silent and would be speaking to keep the opposition under pressure.
“The thing we’ve spoken about is the difference between abuse and banter. We won’t be silent. We’re going to be speaking, trying to put pressure on teams as we usually do. But we have to be respectful. I’m sure you’re going to hear us talking through the stump mic. But it’s up to me, Justin and the senior players to stay on the side of banter and never go to abuse. There’s no doubt our reputation took a bit of a battering. Coming to England now with new faces, a new coach, just getting back into cricket is an opportunity for us to move on and show we’ve made a few changes,” he said.

Coach Langer suggested that it eventually depends upon the players to maintain a good environment both on and off-field.
“We have our values and our expectations, that’s really important,” said the 47-year-old Langer.
“But I’ve said this for 25 years, we can have the fanciest mission statements, but if you don’t live them, they’re like toilet paper mate. They are written down, but unless you live them they’re meaningless,” he said.
“We’ve just got to create the environment where it’s a great changing room. All culture is behaviour. Make it good on and off the field. If we’ve got good behaviours, then we’ve got a good environment,” added Langer.

NEW DELHI: Allrounder Arjun Tendulkar has been named in India's U-19 squad for Sri Lanka tour next month. India are slated to tour Sri Lanka in July for two four-day and five one-day matches.

Arjun, son of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, has made the cut for the four-day squad, which will be led by Delhi wicketkeeper-batsman Anuj Rawat. Anuj made his first-class debut for Delhi last season.
Aryan Juyal of Uttar Pradesh, whose List A debut came in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, has been named captain of the one-day squad.

The 18-year-old Arjun is a left-arm medium pacer and a left-hand batsman. He was part of a group of 25 U-19 cricketers who were in Dharamsala in April this year for a month-long camp.
The six-foot plus Arjun counts Australian left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc and England allrounder Ben Stokes among his role models.
Earlier this year, Arjun made headlines with a sparkling debut in the Spirit of Cricket Global Challenge in Australia. Playing for Cricketer's Club of India against Hong Kong Cricket Club in a T20 match at the Bradman Oval, Arjun produced an eye-catching all-round performance as he clubbed 48 runs off 27 deliveries as an opener and also picked up four wickets in four overs.

India skipper Virat Kohli is out of action for a while due to a neck injury but the flamboyant batsman hasn’t given up on his workout regime. This time the captain had ‘someone special’ with him in the gym and it was none other than his wife and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma.
Kohli on Wednesday posted a video on his official Instagram account that said, training together makes it even better! ♥️♥️♥️ @anushkasharma.” The couple tied the knot in December last year and have been regularly posting photos together on social media. Be it their honeymoon or Anushka’s birthday or Kohli’s Indian Premier League matches, the two haven’t left a chance to show their love for each other.

Kohli was scheduled to travel to England for his first County stint in June but unfortunately, his tour was cancelled after the neck injury. “Kohli, who was scheduled to play for Surrey CCC in the month of June, has been ruled out from participating. This decision was taken following assessments by the BCCI Medical team, subsequent scans, and a specialist visit,” the press release said.
The release added that Kohli will undergo a fitness test from June 15. “The Team India captain will now undergo a period of rehabilitation under the supervision of the BCCI Medical team. He will begin training and subsequently undergo a fitness test at the NCA in Bengaluru from June 15,” it said.
He was last in action in the IPL 2018 where the right-hander led Royal Challengers Bangalore in the cash-rich league. RCB failed to make a place in the playoffs but Kohli had a good run in the league as he accumulated 530 runs in 14 matches

India will now play a one-off Test match against Afghanistan but Kohli won’t be a part of it. The Indian team will then travel to Ireland for two T20Is before their tour of England where they will play three T20Is, three ODIs and five Tests.

    AFGHANISTAN VS BANGLADESH BETTING ODDS

Bet on Bangladesh for Real Money

    Afghanistan
    Bangladesh

    ABOUT THE MATCH

Afghanistan’s 1st home game at Dehradun could not have gone any better as they thrashed the Bangladesh team by 45 runs. That is a huge margin of victory in T20 cricket and will surely leave the Bangladeshi’s seething. The visitors have the opportunity to hit back in this next T20 as they try to keep the series alive. Afghanistan, on the other hand, will not want to let up at all and take this opportunity to record a T20 series victory over a much more senior full member nation.

One thing is sure that we can expect a lot more aggression from both sides in this upcoming encounter.

    MATCH PREVIEW
    AFGHANISTAN

‘Emotion’ is often used to describe the inconsistency that Afghanistan sides have become famous for and to brush aside some truly remarkable brain fades. In the first T20, though, Afghanistan played with their emotions firmly in check and put in an absolutely clinical performance.

The manner in which Afghanistan played should actually scare Bangladesh because they got every aspect of their game correct. The openers provided a solid platform, they lost wickets in the middle order but the lower order provided the power to boost them to a winning total and then the bowlers just took over.

The entire team had a clear idea about the roles to be performed and they never once looked in trouble.

Can Afghanistan repeat this performance in this game to win the series?

There are a few areas that have still not been addressed by Afghanistan. The first would be the fielding. No one notices the fielding when everything is going well but even in this victory, there were plenty of instances where Afghanistan could have saved a couple of runs or stolen an extra one while batting.

These small margins can come back to hurt them.

Also, we are not convinced about their batting lineup and think they could be vulnerable while chasing a decent total.

Setting a target is much easier for a weak batting lineup because there is no scoreboard pressure. If Afghanistan was to find itself chasing in the next match then its batting lineup will be tested for sure.

The positives for Afghanistan are there for everyone to see. Their trio of spinners is very effective and will make life difficult for the Bangladeshi batsmen no matter what the match situation is. Rashid Khan started with two wickets off his first two deliveries and pretty much broke the back of the Bangladeshi chase.

Mujeeb and Nabi were the bowlers to have done the early damage.

Afghanistan has the far superior bowling attack in this contest and that will give them an edge in every single match. The only thing that could hold them back could be their inexperience of playing as favorites and their inconsistent batting lineup.

    BANGLADESH
Reaching the finals of the Nidahas trophy and beating Sri Lanka convincingly twice in that tournament had raised hopes of a Bangladeshi rise in the T20 format. The evidence of the first match suggests that there is plenty of work that is needed to be done.

We think that Bangladesh lost the last match when it allowed Afghanistan to plunder close to 70 runs in the last five overs. That is almost 50% of the total score and was clearly above par for the surface. Bangladesh cannot let Afghanistan out-bat them in this contest because the Bangladeshis certainly do not have the bowling to out-bowl the Afghans.

It also appeared as if Bangladesh had not done its homework before the series. The lines that their bowlers bowled were poor and allowed Afghanistan to score runs in their favored areas. The Bangladeshi batsmen also had no clue as to the best way to tackle the spinners.

Can all this be changed in a matter of a few days? Probably not but the performance of one match should not be taken too seriously either.

Bangladesh will be desperate to have Tamim Iqbal contribute in the next game and lead from the front. Tamim and Shakib are the two most experienced batsmen in this lineup. The pair is also very good at T20 cricket and it was encouraging to see them both bat in the top-3.

We believe that Tamim and Shakib have the temperament to be able to strike back in this match and come hard at the Afghanistan bowlers. The fact that Tamim Iqbal and Sabbir Rahman got out first ball is also something that hurt Bangladesh badly in their chase.

Liton Dad showed good form and is a good choice for opener. We would have personally preferred to see Sabbir up at the top but Liton Das is an excellent candidate as well.

With players like Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, and Mossadek Hossain in the side as well, the Bangladesh side is a good batting side and one bad performance does not change that.

What about the Bangladeshi bowling, though?

We found it strange that Mehidy Hasan was not picked on a surface which was offering plenty to the spinners. Even someone like Mahmudullah took two wickets of one over without giving a run and was never bowled again.

Abul Hasan and Abu Jayed went for plenty of runs making it necessary for Shakib to turn to some of his part-timers. Mehidy Hasan is the best off-spinner in the Bangladesh squad and a case for his inclusion can be very strongly made.

Rubel Hossain is also a senior bowler now and must take responsibility of bowling at the death. He is always a little inconsistent but seemed particularly off-color in his second spell in the last match.

Bangladesh needs to step up its bowling effort markedly if it is to stay alive in this series.

    PITCH AND CONDITIONS

The pitch was low, slow, and two-paced in the first game. It got slower as the game progressed and we think that a similar surface will be offered to players for this game as well. The weather is expected to be dry with a very small chance of showers predicted for the match right now.

Spinners are going to dominate proceedings and the best time to score runs seems to be with the new ball.

    OUR PREDICTION

We thought that the bookmakers had underestimated Afghanistan coming into the first match and that represented an excellent betting opportunity. The same now seems to be the case with Bangladesh. One loss has made them the bookmakers underdogs to a large degree. Remember that this is the same team that beat Sri Lanka convincingly and ran India very close as well.

We would recommend banking on a Bangladeshi comeback in this match.

    Back Bangladesh to win.

    HIGHLIGHTS

Rashid says he is prepared for the "test of patience" that awaits him in the country's five-day debut against India

Rashid said he won't be tweaking his style of bowling at all
DEHRADUN: The crown prince of cricket's slam-bang version, Afghanistan star Rashid Khan says he is prepared for the "test of patience" that awaits him in the country's five-day debut against India, where all he wants is to keep the jangling nerves at bay.
The historic Test against the world No.1 side, which would be without talismanic skipper Virat Kohli, starts June 14 in Bengaluru.
ALSO READ: Rashid Khan leads Afghanistan to comfortable win
"Being a Test cricketer is not a lot different to playing ODIs and T20s," the 19-year-old Rashid, the world's No.1 T20 bowler, said in an interview.
And since he doesn't see much of difference, Rashid said he won't be tweaking his style of bowling at all.
"I have done well in whatever four-day opportunities that I have got. If I make changes in my bowling thinking about the Test, it will not be good for me. I will bowl with the same speed I have been bowling so far," he said.
"I have to make sure that I don't panic. I know there will be a phase where I won't pick up a wicket for 20 overs. And I could pick up two in two overs. It is Test cricket," he explained.
"It is going to be a test of patience. There is a possibility that I might end up being wicketless," he conceded.
Rashid hasn't been home for a year and lost a friend to one of Afghanistan's several terror attacks quite recently but is determined to be in the best possible frame of mind on the field for the sake of his "troubled people".
"I have not gone home in a year. I miss my family and friends a lot. It also hurts a lot to hear about blasts back home. Even in the IPL (for Sunrisers Hyderabad) when there was a blast in my hometown, I was really upset. I lost a friend in that," he said.
"Another one of my friend had called me that day and asked why I was not my usual smiling self in the game.
"So, all these incidents do affect me a lot but I try to keep myself in the best possible frame of mind to give a good performance on the field so that the troubled people back home get something to cheer about," he added.
The 10-ball 34 in the IPL qualifier against Kolkata Knight Riders was without doubt one of the impact T20 knocks this year. But ask him about his phenomenal rise and the all-rounder prefers to talk it down.
"I never thought in my life that I would be able to achieve so much in such a short time. It is like a dream," he said.
And an extension of this dream has been the wholesome praise coming from legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, who called him the world's best T20 bowler right now.
"Sachin's tweet was unreal. I kept on thinking for hours what to reply to him. I was really happy. Virat also praised me a lot and Dhoni also during the course of the IPL. It lifts your confidence a lot when they compliment you," he said.
He has resumed national duty after playing a charity match at Lord's and wreaked havoc in the T20 series opener against Bangladesh.
"Last two months, in fact last two years have been very good for me. Since I have joined the national team, I got the success that I wanted. I am very happy with that. I am enjoying the game and that is why I am doing well," said Rashid.
Talking about the depth of Afghanistan's severely-short-of-experience Test team, he said: "We have a good pool of players at the First Class level back in Afghanistan. They just need a little polishing and experience."
Expectations are also high from his spin partner Mujeeb Zadran, who too turned heads with his performances in the IPL before getting injured in the second half of the tournament.
"We back each other. Whether it is Mohamad Nabi, who is a senior player, and Mujeeb. We share whatever knowledge we have. Mujeeb has been superb and amazing so far. He has lots of skills and in future he will be able to do even better," said Rashid when asked about his rapport with other spinners in the national team.
With the form that he is in, the leg-spinner is sought after in all the major T20 leagues around the world. His travelling has increased substantially over the years but he is not losing sleep over it.
"It is tough but as a professional you have to get used to it. I have been travelling a lot in the last few years. You just have to be fit enough to play regularly and travel so much," he said.

Scotland v England: Tom Sole injured, Dylan Budge in home squad

Kyle Coetzer (left) leads Scotland as they seek a first win against England

Scotland will be without Tom Sole for Sunday's one-day international with England after the 21-year-old bowler broke his ankle on club duty.

Older brother Chris is in the final 15-man squad for the sold-out match at The Grange in Edinburgh.

Experienced top-order batsman Kyle Coetzer captains the side for what will be his 50th ODI appearance.

All-rounder Dylan Budge, who plays his club cricket at The Grange, could make his full ODI debut.

'We can give England a real run for their money'

Stokes ruled out of Scotland ODIODI

"This has been our toughest squad to select to date, in terms of having so many players knocking on the door with strong performances," said head coach Grant Bradburn.

"There has been a lot of cricket so far this season and outdoor training has been intense, so the players themselves have had ample opportunities to sort out the current pecking order.

"Quality players have missed selection and are gutted not to feature this time, which is a strong sign of the depth that is evident now through the new regional structure and performance academy."

England, who are warming up for six limited-overs home matches against Australia, were last in Scotland in 2014, winning a rain-affected match in Aberdeen by 39 runs.

The teams met at the World Cup in 2015, with England winning by 119 runs in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Scotland will play two Twenty20 matches with Pakistan at The Grange on 12 and 13 June before a tri-series in the Netherlands, involving Ireland.

Scotland squad:Kyle Coetzer (captain), Richie Berrington (vice-captain), Dylan Budge, Matthew Cross, Alasdair Evans, Michael Jones, Michael Leask, Calum MacLeod, Preston Mommsen, George Munsey, Safyaan Sharif, Chris Sole, Mark Watt, Brad Wheal, Stuart Whittingham.

England v Pakistan: Mickey Arthur says his side need 'a couple of hidings' after innings defeat

Pint-sized TMS: England beat Pakistan by an innings and 55 runs

Second Test, Headingley (day three of five)
      Pakistan 174 (48.1 overs) & 134 (46 overs): Imam 34, Broad 3-28, Bess 3-33
      England 363 (106.2 overs): Buttler 80*, Bess 49, Faheem 3-60
England win by an innings and 55 runs; series drawn 1-1
      Scorecard
Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur says he needs to "dish out a couple of hidings" after his side were thrashed by England in the second Test at Headingley.

The hosts secured victory by an innings and 55 runs inside three days to draw the series 1-1.

Arthur said it was an "incredibly disappointing" display after the "high" of winning by nine wickets in the first Test at Lord's.

He said: "We need to dish out a couple of hidings but it's how they grow."

He added: "The talent we have in that dressing room is phenomenal so we've just got to get more consistency and that's what we're striving for."

Highlights, reaction & analysis of England's win
England win cannot 'paper over cracks' - Root
Speaking to Sky Sports, the South African added his side were "very gutted" by the manner of defeat as Pakistan missed out on a first series win in England for 22 years.

"We'll have a hard discussion about it, but as long as that dressing room has learnt from it. We're a young team and hopefully we can grow and grow quicker.

"Inconsistency is one of the things that comes with a young team, however hard that is for all of us to take at the moment."

      'A massive chance'

England were 224-5 on day two, leading by 50, when Jos Buttler was dropped on four by Hasan Ali off 19-year-old leg-spinner Shadab Khan.

Buttler capitalised by going on to make 80 not out, helping England to a first-innings score of 363 and a lead of 189.

"That was a massive chance - we knew at the time it had the potential to be pretty big and it was but that happens, nobody drops them on purpose," said Arthur.

"Shadab Khan had bowled a really good spell up until that point so that would've just capped it off so nicely in terms of confirming for him that he belongs at this level."

After winning the toss at Headingley and electing to bat, Pakistan were dismissed for 174, but Arthur said his side would do the same again.

"There was always going to be something in the wicket, but we just had to get through a session and a half then the sun came out and conditions became really good for batting," he said.

Azhar Ali, Babar Azam, Asad Shafiq and Shadab all made half-centuries at Lord's, but the latter was the only Pakistan batsman to reach fifty at Headingley.

"The key thing that we're going to discuss is that a number of our batsmen in this series got starts, but we didn't get a hundred," said Arthur.

"And for us to grow as a team we need someone in the top six getting hundreds consistently."
